Hair Extension Care Instructions

Co-washing your extensions before installing is an essential step to not only gently cleanse the hair but to also add luster, shine and bounce back into the hair for a flawless install.

1. Co-Wash Your Extensions

Before installing, co-washing gently cleanses the hair and adds shine, bounce, and softness for a flawless finish.

 

Steps:

  1. Wet hair with lukewarm water and apply a sulfate-free moisturizing conditioner (like Deep Moisture Conditioner).
  2. Use a wide-tooth comb or detangling brush to distribute the conditioner.
  3. Let the conditioner sit for at least 5 minutes.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm or cool water to seal the cuticles and lock in moisture.
  5. Let the hair air dry completely.
  6. Proceed with the install. (Tip: Read "How to Prevent Shedding" before installing!)

2. Special Care for Lace Base Extensions (Frontals, Closures, Wigs)

Tips:

  • Be gentle! Lace is delicate—vigorous brushing or tweezing can damage it.
  • Never scratch lace with sharp objects like rat-tail combs or bobby pins, as this can tear the lace.
  • To create a natural hairline, bleach the knots carefully and wash with Neutralizing Shampoo. You can also use concealer powder instead of bleach.

3. Daily Maintenance for Wavy/Curly Extensions
  1. Gently brush out waves or curls using a wide-tooth comb or detangling brush.
  2. Use a spray bottle to saturate the hair with water.
  3. Apply a generous amount of Leave-In Conditioner for a soft, fluffy look. For defined curls, use Curling Cream.
  4. Let the hair air dry fully before touching or styling.

4. Caring for Lace Base Extensions (Closures, Frontals & Wigs)

Shampoo & Conditioning:

  1. Detangle hair gently with a wide-tooth comb, starting from the ends.
  2. Run the closure under warm water and apply a sulfate-free shampoo. Gently work the shampoo from the lace to the ends. Do not scrub the lace!
  3. Rinse and apply conditioner, then rinse again thoroughly.
  4. Detangle once more and let air dry, or use a blow dryer on low heat.

Styling Tips:

  1. Detangle gently from the ends up to the lace.
  2. To redefine or create a part, spray the base with water or wrapping foam. Part as desired and tie down with a silk scarf for at least 20 minutes until dry.
  3. Style as you like! If using heat tools, always apply a heat protectant and avoid direct contact with the lace.
  4. By following these simple steps, your lashes and hair extensions will stay beautiful, healthy, and long-lasting!

Top Tips for Long-Lasting Lashes!

5. Keep Lashes Dry for 24 Hours

Avoid water and steam for the first 24 hours after getting your extensions. Skip saunas too! After a day, you can shower, swim, and exercise as usual. Just rinse your lashes gently after heavy workouts or swimming in chlorine.

6. Choose Makeup Wisely

Stay away from oil-based or waterproof makeup. If you want extra glam, use water-based mascara only on the tips of your lashes. Not sure if your makeup is lash-safe? Ask your lash stylist!

7. No Eyelash Curlers

Let us know if you prefer more curl, and we’ll select extensions that suit your style.

8. Gentle Face Care

Wash your face gently, especially around your eyes. This protects your lashes and helps prevent wrinkles! Avoid products with glycol (like PEG, Hexalene Glycol, Butylene, or Propylene Glycol).

9. Removing Makeup

Use oil-free makeup remover with a cotton swab under your eyes to avoid pulling on delicate skin.

10. Sleep Smart

Avoid sleeping face-down to protect your lashes. Try sleeping on your back—it helps your posture too! If you wear an eye mask, choose one that doesn’t press on your lashes.

11. TLC for Your Lashes

Brush your lashes daily for a full, fluttery look. Use the free aftercare kit from Rapture Extensions, and ask your stylist how to use it best. Clean your lashes with a lash cleanser before brushing at night.

12. Hands Off!

Avoid touching or pulling at your lashes—your fingers can transfer oils and dirt. Use your lash brush instead.
